Handling Student Authorized Absences
— May 31, 2010
NiftySchool offers a quick way to check students attendance percentage. This is calculated comparing the number of attended hours against the number of hours the student was expected to attend.
This percentage is important for schools enrolling visa students and schools issuing attendance certificates, and needs to be accurate.
Until now, every absence decreased the attendance percentage and there was no way to say “I know this student won’t be here, please don’t count him as absent in the stats”.
This scenario needed to be taken into account for accurate percentage calculation, so we’ve implemented a new feature: authorized absences.
In the student file, you will find a new ‘Authorized absences’ link. Following the link you will be able to specify all of the authorized absences, along with the reason why the student is not attending.

Dates are inclusive, so if you need to specify a single day of absence, just input the same date twice, both in the start date and the end date field.
The authorized absences are marked in the attendance calendar as Authorized so that you can quicky spot them.

Click on the authorized absence box, and you will quickly see the reason of the absence.
Hope you find the new feature useful, and enjoy accurate percentages!
