NiftySchool Prevents Duplicate Student Entries

— Jul 14, 2010

It’s nice to have a clean database of students. Sometimes, though, we forget that someone is already registered. Without checking, we insert a duplicate entry.

This happens when students return to the school multiple times over a long period, or when we mistakenly process our paper files twice.

Fixing duplicates is particularly annoying as you need to delete one record and make sure that the information is correctly stored in the other one.

This means a lot of manual checking and a waste of time; it is definitely better not to duplicate data in the first place.

From now on, if you create a student entry with a name and surname which already exist in the system (e.g. John Smith), a warning will be returned as follows:

1. The system tells you which student matches the name and surname you just entered, with a link to edit it.

2. If you want to create a duplicate entry because there really are two different John Smiths to register, just tick the Allow duplicates box, and click ‘save’. A new record with the same name will be created.

We hope you enjoy these additional features that will help you keep your database clean and tidy.
