Take Into Account Holidays When Tracking Student Attendance

— Jan 21, 2011

NiftySchool provides a simple way to track attendances. You are always provided with the attendance percentage, calculated automatically comparing the number of lessons attended and the “expected” attendance hours.

However, students may occasionaly miss few lessons. You can mark absences as “authorised” if you do not want these to affect the attendance percentage.

This feature is useful for students planned vacations or other times you know they are allowed to miss school.

For public holidays, you will need to add “authorized absences” for each student individually, which is a tedious and error prone process.

NiftySchool now provides a way to add holidays to the system so that any absence matching the given dates can be treated as authorized.

To add public holidays/global authorized absences, go to the Configuration tab and click on the ‘Holidays Calendar’ link.

Add the holiday start and end date, along with a description:

This will appear in the list of public holidays:

These settings will be automatically reflected in every student’s attendance calendar, and will be displayed as ‘Holiday’.

Holidays will never be taken into account when computing the expected attendance, so you can use this for real holidays or for instances in which your school is closed and no student is supposed to attend.

We hope you find this feature useful! If you have comments or questions, feel free to drop us a note at info@niftyschool.com.
