Updates To Payments Handling
— Jul 24, 2011
In the past few weeks we’ve been working on the payments section, to simplify it and make it more consistent.
The core changes we’ve made are the following:
- Multiple items for the same payment
- Easier receipt printing
- Support for thermal printers
Let’s see these changes in detail:
1) Multi-item payments
When taking a payment now you can specify multiple payment ‘items’ in a single go.
This allows you to easily link a payment to, for example, registration/lesson fees/accommodation/books in a single logical unit.
This is more in line with how payment and receipts work in the real world: students make a single payment for multiple things.

The payment has now a ‘header’ section (which includes date, payment method, receipt number etc), and one or more item rows (in which you specify type of payment, description, amount).
Total amount will be automatically computed talling up all of the items’ amounts.

2) Easier receipt printing
The new payment structure allows you to print receipts straight away, without manually grouping payments as you did before.
Click on the ‘Print receipt’ button on the right hand side to print a receipt, using the new PDF layout (it used to generate an excel spreadsheet).
Click to see the PDF version.
The receipt automatically includes your logo, school name and student contact information if provided.
3) Support for thermal printers
Some schools may want to use special thermal printers for the receipts.
Receipts printed on thermal paper look like the ones you get at the supermarket, they are long and narrow and are usually less expensive if you print a lot.
You can enable thermal printer layout, going to the receipts configuration page and selecting the ‘Use thermal printer/paper layout’ option.

All the receipts will be printed with the special layout instead of using the standard full page one.
We hope you find the new payments more intuitive, and the new receipts feature useful.
