What Can Teachers See?

NiftySchool allows you to set up logins for your teachers.

This is a very useful feature because teachers can help you track attendance and reduce the amount of administration you need to do.

By giving them access to NiftySchool, you can ask them to update attendance on a daily basis, which they can do both from the office and from home, keeping your database consistent and always up to date.

Also, you may want to make sure that they cannot retrieve students’ phone numbers and email addresses to contact them directly.

Let’s review how to set up teacher access and what teachers can or cannot do in the system.

Set up teacher access:

In order to set up teacher access, go to the Staff tab and create a new teacher.

Specify email and password (twice for verification purposes) and make sure to only select the ‘teacher’ role in the Permissions section, otherwise the teacher will be able to perform more operations that you’d like him to.

You can also flag the ‘send notification email’ checkbox. This will automatically send an email to the teacher, with instructions to log in.

If a record for the teacher is already present though, the system will NOT send the instructions email.

If this is the case, just set the password to a temporary value and tell the teacher what that is, he will be able to amend it once logged in.

NiftySchool does not send password information to existing teachers because all passwords are encrypted upon creation and cannot be retrieved in clear for security reasons.

Teacher login:

Once a teacher is recorded into the system, he will be able to log into the system using the standard login form:

Teachers will not see private information about the students or classes assigned to their colleagues.

Their accounts are restricted so that they can only perform certain actions in the system and see a limited amount of data.

Specifically, they will only be able to:

• See their timetable
• See their classes
• See their class registers
• Track attendance
• See staff list
• See scheduled exams

Note: Teachers will not see student details!

This allows you to grant them access without worrying about them stealing your students’ emails or phone numbers or changing details in the system.
